The Mesa de la Sociedad Civil para la Transparencia en las Industrias Extractivas (La Mesa) joined PWYP as the national coalition in Colombia in March 2022. La Mesa is an initiative that emerged in November 2013 and brings together 25 social organizations and academic institutions, located in different regions of Colombia.
The objective of La Mesa is to seek greater levels of transparency and access to public information on the Colombian extractive sector. Since its creation, La Mesa has been coordinating civil society participation in the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), specifically through participation in the multi-stakeholder group. In addition, La Mesa has defined strategic areas of work that respond to the current situation of the extractive sector, the demands of civil society in relation to hydrocarbon and mining activities, and the work that several of its members carry out on daily basis: i) monitoring the general royalties system; ii) participation in EITI and advancing access to environmental impact information; and iii) energy transition from an extractive industries perspective.
